PRESCOTT, Ariz., Feb. 23, 2006 – Wulfsberg Electronics’ next-generation of navigation and communications equipment — known as FliteLine(TM)— is now fully certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the company announced today.

Wulfsberg in late 2004 earned certification for its space-saving suite of color control display units. This newly announced FAA approval now clears the way for production of line replaceable units (LRUs) for VHF Com, VHF Nav, and DME, and these will work in concert with the color control display units.

“This certification completes the package of equipment so that customers may begin replacing their Series III boxes, or other aging equipment, with this exciting new technology,” said Bob Evans, Wulfsberg’s product manager for Nav/Com products. “The new equipment features digital signal processing, (DSP) which will take the overall performance and reliability to a new level.”

The FliteLine system was designed to allow installation of a complete six-unit control display suite (two com, two nav, one ADF and transponder controls) in one-third less panel space. In addition to saving space, the FliteLine equipment features unique full-color displays, and is lightweight and affordable.

The LRUs save space, too. The Com and the Nav are each just 2.40 inches wide and the DME is just 3.27 inches wide.

FliteLine control display equipment can directly replace Bendix, AlliedSignal, and Chelton Series III controls. FliteLine also supports the Collins-Gables 2 out of 5 interface.

The newly certified FliteLine navigation and communications equipment may be installed new or as an upgrade to an existing system. The newly certified FliteLine equipment will be displayed publicly for the first time in the Wulfsberg booth (No. 2821) at the upcoming Heli-Expo Convention, Feb. 26-28 in Dallas, Texas.

Wulfsberg’s FliteLine Nav/Com System can be configured with VHF Com (8.33 or 25 kHz channeling, 118-152 MHz), VOR, ILS, Marker Beacon, DME, ADF, discrete controls, and a Radio Management Unit. The system includes both ARINC 429 digital interfaces and conventional analog interfaces to support new or retrofit installations.

In addition to its Nav/Com products, Wulfsberg Electronics designs and manufactures Flexcomm multi-band, airborne FM/AM tactical radio communications systems.

Wulfsberg Electronics is a division of Cobham Avionics and Surveillance which specializes in advanced communications technology to provide synthetic vision EFIS, transceivers, beacons, digital autopilot controls, electronic clocks, navigation lights, and audio management systems incorporating features such as high-speed scanning, encryption, spread spectrum modems, terrain modeling, programmable memory and automated AGRAS operation.

Cobham Avionics and Surveillance is a technology division of U.K.-based Cobham plc, which has annual sales in excess of £983 million ($1.7 billion). Cobham — with five technology divisions and one in a service sector — designs and manufactures equipment, specialized systems and components for the aerospace, defense, industrial, and communications markets, and operates, maintains and modifies aircraft, particularly in support of special mission flight operations.
